Geotab has acquired Strategic Telecom Solutions, the largest reseller of its telematics products, in a deal announced Oct. 5.

The acquisition will enable Geotab to offer specialized services to small and mid-size fleets; expand support to a 24/7 help desk; and provide new services such as automated HOS practices and customized tablet provisioning. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Geotab also plans to scale up platforms and revenue with the acquisition of STS, a 3.5-year partner of the telematics vendor. STS has been averaging 250 new customer accounts per month.

"After 3.5 years of partnering with STS, it was clear they were such an ideal match for Geotab that it was time to make the relationship permanent," said Neil Cawse, Geotab's CEO. "This acquisition not only benefits the existing customers of both companies, but also the hundreds of thousands more we expect to add over the next two years, by providing them with the world’s broadest, deepest and most innovative portfolio of telematics solutions."

With the deal, Geotab will provide new services to customers, such as automated HOS practices to help fleets reduce the challenges of staying in compliance and monitoring driver safety.

Joey Marlow, STS' CEO, called the acquisition a "perfect partnership" between the companies.

"We have built a great foundation for scalable support services, so the marriage of our sales and support model with their focus on engineering a superior product, we are going to be a dominant force in the industry," Marlow said. "This is a very exciting time for us and we cannot wait to see what the future holds."
