Volkswagen took another step toward announcing its new mid-size SUV, after workers at its Chattanooga, Tenn., plant assembled the first metal test body, the automaker announced.

Production of the new, and yet unnamed utility, is scheduled for later 2016. The vehicle should arrive in 2017.

Volkswagen built the first test body to check the calibration of body shop equipment and processes. The body is then passed on for further testing and development.
