Ryder System has ordered 500 Chanje Energy battery-electric panel vans and will add the medium-duty vehicles to its ChoiceLease truck leasing program, the company has announced.

The order will be executed as lease agreements, and Ryder will also offer its SelectCare maintenance product with the vehicles. Ryder is the exclusive provider of sales and service of the vans.

Chanje's V8070 is a Class 5 vehicle that can haul up to 6,000 pounds of payload and has 580 cubic-feet of cargo space. It has an effective range of 100 miles when fully loaded and can deliver the equivalent of about 50 miles per gallon in city and highway driving, according to the company.

Ryder has set up maintenance facilities in seven major markets to meet service and charging requirements for commercial EVs, including Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Sacramento, San Jose, Chicago, and New York City.

This is Ryder's second order for Chanje vans. The truck leasing provider ordered 125 of the vehicles in 2017.
