A multi-solution platform created by Motion Intelligence in partnership with Voxx Advanced Solutions is designed to prevent drivers from using smartphones while driving using a combination of software and device tracking.

The solution uses precise location technology to detect and disable device screens within the driver zone of the vehicle, or in high risk areas such as pedestrians pass through. A software tool called Evvy is loaded onto a smart device works in conjunction with a windshield-mounted device, Audiovox FSD1, to identify any smart devices within the driver’s zone.

Evvy installs as an application on the user's mobile device or can be integrated into existing software and telematics solutions.

When a smart device is within the restricted area, the system prevents a driver from texting, using social media, or any other apps while the vehicle is moving. The device can also be configured by the fleet manager to enable apps that are necessary for the job such as navigation and Bluetooth.

In some applications, Evvy can also be used to detect passenger seat location and automatically set a passenger's favorite environmental conditions, navigation priorities, infotainment tastes, and more, unlocking new revenue from targeted advertising and e-commerce engagement direct-to-passenger-device.

"Our first priority is to eliminate a driver's hands-on use of their mobile device behind the wheel, and at the same time enable that driver to use their mobile device safely," said Sue Spradley, Motion Intelligence chief executive officer. “To do that effectively, we needed to be able to detect any mobile device in a vehicle, then pinpoint exactly where it is in the vehicle.  That precise location information allows for a multitude of device management applications which enhance driver and passenger safety and this ultimately saves lives."
