FleetCor Technologies Inc.'s Comdata is offering an open-loop MasterCard to service fleets and other businesses that allows drivers to pay for fuel and other supplies, according to the company.

Comdata's business expense card allows businesses to charge fuel and non-fuel expenses, while retaining employee spend controls, according to FleetCor, which is based in Peachtree Corners, Georgia.

The card will be geared to small- and medium-sized businesses, especially commercial and residential service professionals such as general contractors, HVAC technicians, plumbers, and electricians. It replaces the company's BuilderPro card.

The card's rebate structure provides cash back on supplies and other non-fuel purchases.

"We are excited to bring the same great benefits of our industry-leading fuel and maintenance card programs to businesses that rely on the purchase of other goods and services," said Jay Guadagna, FleetCor's vice president of product. "The new Comdata business expense card allows employees to spend more freely within adjacent categories while enabling management to maintain the control and expense reporting convenience they've always enjoyed."

In a related announcement, FleetCor has recorded its first mobile fuel transaction through the MasterCard network, following its 2018 strategic partnership with P97 Networks, which provides secure cloud-based mobile commerce and digital marketing solutions for the convenience retail and fuels marketing industry under the brand name PetroZone.

Since the formation of the partnership, the companies have worked closely to provide FleetCor customers with the ability to pay at the pump with a mobile device.
