Lawmakers in at least one other state are wasting no time in lining up behind California's latest effort to limit greenhouse gas emissions from automotive tailpipes, according to a Detroit News story by Jeff Plungis. In New York, the chairman of the Assembly's environmental conservation committee, Thomas DiNapoli, D-Long Island, plans to introduce legislation that would adopt California's standards. California Gov. Gray Davis, a Democrat, signed a controversial bill July 22 that would curb carbon dioxide emissions starting with 2009 models. "Global warming and greenhouse gases pose serious health and economic risks," DiNapoli said. "By acting now, we are acting responsibly to limit the pollutants that directly contribute to global warming and the degradation of air quality."
