Fleet FAQ? Telematics & Fleet Tracking

Q. We have a good safety program, but are still having trouble with speeding. Can you offer some tips about how we can get a handle on speeding using our telematics solution?

A. Having a safety program is crucial to getting a handle on speeding or any other risky behaviors, so you likely have the foundation you need to get started.

You can emphasize how important driving the posted speed limit is by launching a safety campaign that focuses specifically on speeding and aggressive driving—and use your telematics platform to monitor and coach drivers to improve their behavior.

For example, with Geotab GO, speed information can be viewed in MyGeotab on a route map. Further, you can develop scorecards specific to speeding—and even use it as part of your rewards program during the campaign period—and create rules and exception-reporting based around speeding.

To launch a successful driver safety campaign you’ll need to do the following:

  • Set a goal—e.g., reduce or eliminate speeding, defining your campaign.
  • Identify a campaign manager and internal stakeholder.
  • Create the campaign—include a communication and compliance strategy.
  • Promote the campaign.
  • Evaluate the progress and make adjustments as needed.

In addition to keeping your drivers safe, you should see other benefits as well during a speeding campaign, including lowered fuel and maintenance costs.
