General Motors Corp. plans to make a multibillion-dollar assault on the midsize vehicle market over the next three years with "fewer, but stronger" products, the automaker's product czar said Nov. 13, according to the Detroit News. "It's a segment where we have lost ground in recent years but it's exactly where we intend to make our stand -- beginning now," said Bob Lutz, chairman of GM North America and vice chairman for product development. GM plans to introduce 10 new or redesigned midsized vehicles through 2005, including new versions of the Chevrolet Malibu, Pontiac Grand Am and Grand Prix and Buick Regal, according to the News, which added that Pontiac plans a convertible version of the Grand Am.
