DriveCam Video Systems, a developer
of fleet safety technology, announced the launch of the DriveCam
Protected Fleet Certification Program. To become certified, fleets are
required to demonstrate that they have properly integrated the DriveCam
Driving Feedback System into their fleet operations and driver performance
evaluation standards. Certified fleets can become eligible for benefits
that include lower insurance costs, reduced operating expenses and an
enhanced community image.
According to the company, DriveCam's Driving Feedback System is a fleet safety program that integrates
video technology and management software to identify high-risk driving
habits. Unusual driving events are collected by a palm-sized video recorder
mounted behind the rearview mirror that records what drivers see and hear.
Video files can be automatically downloaded to a computer, where specialized
software allows managers to view and analyze driving performance. Videos
can also be emailed directly to insurance carriers to settle claims. By
changing driving behavior, the company claims the Driving Feedback System has reduced the
frequency and severity of collisions by 35 percent to 70 percent.
DriveCam developed the DriveCam Protected Certification Program in conjunction
with its insurance partners to establish eligibility requirements for
premium credits. Under the program, fleets are required to meet specific
criteria to verify the full implementation of the Driving Feedback System
into their fleet operations. Becoming certified ensures that fleets achieve
the maximum benefits in reduced insurance claims and lower operating expenses, says the company.
"In determining rates, fleets are being judged by their underwriting results,"
said Howard Handler, vice president of the American Agency, an affiliate
of Royal & Sun Alliance. "This directly relates to how drivers behave.
DriveCam Certified fleets can demonstrate to insurance carriers that they
are taking steps to reduce losses by ensuring that their drivers drive
safely."
Ed Andrew, president of DriveCam, stated: "Fleets that become certified
under the DriveCam Protected program improve driving safety, security
and accountability in their fleet. Driver behavior, how drivers actually
perform on the road, is the most critical component of driving safety.
DriveCam's Driving Feedback System is the only program that incorporates
video technology to capture actual driving experiences. Combined with
Hindsight 20/20, our fleet management software, it provides a comprehensive
program to monitor, track and improve driving performance."
