Trimble and RouteSmart Technologies, Inc., a supplier of GIS-based route optimization software for the waste management industry, announced June 3 that they have signed a joint marketing agreement to integrate Trimble’s Internet-based fleet management solution with RouteSmart's route optimization products. According to the company, by integrating these products, waste and recycling haulers will have access to the most advanced automated fleet tracking and routing solution offered in the industry. The announcement was made at WASTE EXPO 2003, the largest tradeshow in North America serving the $43 billion solid waste and recycling market. As part of the agreement, Trimble and RouteSmart say they will collaborate to create an interface that connects Trimble’s Telvisant Fleet Management System with RouteSmart’s route planning software. Fleet operators will be able to optimize their routes in RouteSmart, then compare the planned route to actual performance data gathered by Trimble's Telvisant system. Fleet managers and route planners can then monitor productivity and improve the efficiency of their vehicles, say the companies. “Telvisant provides the actual container lift times and locations, transfer station times, and travel times RouteSmart needs to calibrate and fine-tune its optimization algorithms. Using this data, RouteSmart clients can further refine their workload statistics to reflect actual – not estimated – tonnages and service times,” said Chris Walz, RouteSmart Technologies' vice president of sales and marketing. “With GPS and Internet-based truck tracking technology seamlessly integrated with our route optimization software, waste and recycling businesses will have a powerful new tool for driving significant new productivity into their fleet operations. We are creating a total information system loop -- it's simple and automated for haulers.” "Trimble has assembled a 'best of breed' fleet management solution for the refuse market by aligning with RouteSmart," said Michael Lesyna, vice president and general manager of Trimble’s Mobile Solutions Division. "The combination of Trimble's in-vehicle hardware and services and RouteSmart's sophisticated route optimization software gives refuse haulers an unprecedented capability to streamline operations and improve customer service." The Trimble Telvisant System is a complete solution that includes hardware, wireless connectivity, software and service. The platform allows fleet managers to use location-based services to improve productivity. About RouteSmart Technologies, Inc.
