Andrew Corporation announced that the 2004 Lincoln Aviator Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) is using an Andrew concealed Global Positioning Systems (GPS) antenna as a part of the vehicle's navigation system. Using GPS and map-matching technologies, the Lincoln Aviator's DVD-based navigation system can pinpoint the vehicle's location (to within a 10-ft radius) and guide the driver to the destination with visual directions on a 6.5-inch color touch-screen display, according to the company. When integrated with the vehicle's sound system, the navigation system also imparts turn-by-turn audio directions. According to the company, the Andrew GPS Antenna System used on the Lincoln Aviator is a low profile design, with an output signal matched to give the navigation system optimal performance. The Andrew ceramic patch antenna with its low noise amplifier provides a 26 dB signal gain for tracking space-based satellites that determine the vehicle's location. The antenna is concealed beneath the vehicle's dashboard. To ensure ease and accuracy of installation, the Andrew antenna is mounted integrally on the vehicle's instrument panel assembly. The DVD Navigation System is a factory-installed option on the Lincoln Aviator. Andrew says it also supplies GPS antennas for Lincoln's 2004 Navigator SUV, Town Car, and LS vehicles.
