Hyundai Motor Co. will begin selling gasoline-electric hybrid vehicles to U.S. fleet buyers by the end of 2004, a Hyundai source told Automotive News. The vehicles will be sold in small volumes to commercial or government fleets and will not be available to retail customers. The car will be based on the Getz, a supermini that is presently not available in North America. The Getz’s regular powerplant is a range of four-cylinder engines ranging from 1.1 liters to 1.6 liters in displacement. No fleet volume target has been announced. Hyundai expects to begin selling the hybrid Getz in South Korea in 2005, according to the Automotive News story. For a look at the Getz, click here.
