AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — Chrysler Group’s 2005 Chrysler 300 and Dodge Magnum have received five-star ratings for driver and front passenger protection in a frontal crash by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). A five-star rating in the U.S. government’s safety crash test means there is a 10 percent or less chance of serious injury in a severe, 35-mph crash. The Chrysler 300 and Dodge Magnum are equipped with the following safety features:
  • Advanced multi-stage air bag system – Inflation force determined by severity of the impact
  • All-speed traction control system – Enhances mobility and prevents wheel slip when accelerating on road surfaces by operating the brakes and the Electronic Throttle Control (ETC)
  • Anti-lock brake system (ABS) – Equipped with electronic sensors that help prevent wheel lockup
  • Body structure – Crush zones and stiffeners engineered into the vehicle body absorb energy and preserve integrity of the vehicle compartment
  • Constant force retractors (CFR) – Mechanical device distributes the force of a seat belt according to the load exerted on it to gradually release the seat belt webbing during a severe crash
  • Electronic stability program (ESP) – Aids the driver in maintaining vehicle directional stability, providing oversteer and understeer control to maintain vehicle behavior on various road surfaces
  • Energy absorbing steering column – Includes two hydroformed coaxial tubes that move relative to each other, allowing the column to move forward and provide more energy absorption during a crash
  • Occupant classification system (OCS) – Measure the conditions for activation or deactivation of the passenger side front air bag based upon the weight of the occupant
  • Pretensioners – Impact sensors initiate the front seat belt pretensioners to immediately remove slack from the seat belts, which reduces the forward movement of the occupant’s head and torso
  • Supplemental side-curtain air bags – Extends protection to all outboard passengers In addition to these latest vehicle tests, the Chrysler Group has also received five-star ratings for the Dodge Ram, Dodge Durango and Chrysler Pacifica.
