A ground transportation in Bohemia, NY, announced this week it has reduced insurance losses by more than 50 percent in one year using a video driving feedback system from DriveCam Video Systems. The system works by capturing driving behaviors using a small video camera mounted behind the rear view mirror. Risky driving behaviors automatically trigger recordings that are downloaded to a computer network for frame-by-frame analysis using a program called HindSight 20/20. Drivers then receive direct feedback on their driving habits. Classic Transportation president Bill Schoolman said the company is showing more than 50 percent reduction in losses, saving $200,000 in the first year. The self-insured company is the eighth largest integrated ground transportation provider in the U.S. When collisions do occur, DriveCam recordings have also helped prove the company was not at fault, according to the company. In one incident involving a fatality, the DriveCam recording proved that there was nothing the driver could have done to prevent the accident.
