The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety said the Honda Odyssey, Chevrolet Uplander minivans, and Toyota Tacoma, Nissan Frontier and Chevrolet Colorado pickup trucks all earned "good" ratings in crash tests, according to a Reuters report April 11. The Odyssey and Tacoma also earned "best pick" designations from the institute, which is funded by the insurance industry. The crashes are into a deformable barrier at 40 miles per hour. An institute spokesperson said that every small pickup that recently has been redesigned performed better than its predecessor model. The new Chevrolet Uplander is also a dramatic improvement compared with earlier minivans from General Motors, according to the institute.
