In an effort to get more vehicles in to the program, Toyota Division has eased its standards for certified pre-owned vehicles because of the shortage of used vehicles it’s had for more than a year, according to Automotive News. Under the new rules, scheduled to take effect Oct. 1, the mileage limit for certification-eligible vehicles has increased by 20,000 miles, according to the report. Additionally, used vehicles can be one model year older for qualification. Toyota certified used vehicles now come with a 3,000 mile/90-day comprehensive warranty from the time of purchase. Toyota foresees a 5-percent growth, or 240,000 vehicles, in used-vehicles sales from 2004, the report said. Vehicles must be seven model years old or less with fewer than 85,000 miles to qualify.
