The Minnesota state Department of Commerce on Dec. 23 temporarily suspended a requirement to blend 2 percent biodiesel into diesel, the Associated Press reports. The reprieve came after truckers complained that the soybean-base fuel was clogging some fuel filters, especially in cold weather. In tests conducted by the state, results on 18 samples showed that four samples failed a cold-weather test for an undisclosed reason. The Department of Commerce said in a news release it will remove fuel that doesn’t meet specifications. "We have members that are going ballistic over this," said John Hausladen, president of the Minnesota Trucking Association, in the AP story. "...all the evidence we have gathered points to biodiesel being the culprit."
