HOUSTON, -- On Tuesday, June 13th, Shell Lubricants kicked off the multi-city Shell Tech Tour in Dallas, TX to rave reviews. Attendees were presented with a multimedia, educational seminar designed to update fleet customers on the latest lubricants and coolants technology. The Shell Tech Tour will travel to six cities during June.

One of the hottest topics covered on this tour is the latest news on the new API CJ-4 motor oil category. API CJ-4 is a step change in motor oil performance that provides improvements in wear control, high-temperature oxidation control and soot handling. The new motor oils will be required for 2007 model year heavy-duty diesel engines.

The audience for the Shell Tech Tour events is comprised of fleet employees of various positions including maintenance managers, mechanics, technicians, purchasing agents and MTC (Metropolitan Transportation Commission) managers. Also in attendance are Shell distributors and sales representatives who participate in some of the presentations and interact with customers.

Here's what Fleet Customers had to say about the first Shell Tech Tour Event in Dallas:
  • Jessie Lopez, TSI (250 truck fleet that also leases and maintains 125 other trucks.) Mr. Lopez said, "The event made me think about how the new 2007 engines, Ultra Low Diesel Fuel and CJ-4 Oils will impact my business." Lopez added, "I learned a great deal about how Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF) work and how important the maintenance of them will be for engine performance. Based on the pricing projections discussed, I plan on buying the DPF cleaning device, because it would likely be more cost effective than outsourcing the service."
  • Mike Blanco, Southwest Regional Fleet Sales Manager for Speedco, (A national network that specializes in quick lube and tire service for heavy-duty trucks.) Mr. Blanco said, "I was very interested to learn about the backwards compatibility of the 2007 oils, because I hear that question often from my customers and was pleased with the information that was provided at the event." He added, "Shell has been the only oil company to reach out to me with this kind of educational forum, and I would encourage them to do more of these events as we near the launch of the new formulation for 2007 oils."
  • Don Everingham, H-E-B, Facility Manager, Fleet Maintenance. (National grocery store with 450 tractor fleet) Mr. Everingham said, "I was very pleased with the level of technical information provided, especially regarding the chemistry put into the new oils and the Diesel Particulate Filter process." He added, "We would like to have Shell provide a presentation similar to the Tech Tour at our facility to educate our in-house quality control team."

"The Shell Tech Tour is one way Shell Lubricants takes a leadership role in the industry to educate our customers about important issues like the new 2007 motor oils that will impact their businesses," says Dan Arcy, Technical Marketing Manager, for Shell Lubricants. "We feel one of the best ways to do this is in a format that is both interactive and informative."
