smart USA, a subsidiary of United Auto Group, Inc., has launched its reservation system for the “fortwo” car set to go on sale in the first quarter of 2008. The fortwo is designed to achieve 40 plus miles per gallon under normal driving conditions. It measures 8.8 feet long, 5.1 feet tall, and 5.1 feet wide, and comes equipped with many functional and safety features found on higher-priced luxury models. The fortwo is manufactured by the Mercedes Car Group and is a member of the DaimlerChrysler family, and has sold over 770,000 in 36 different countries since 1998. Americans can now reserve their fortwo at www.smartusa.com, where prospective buyers choose between one of three models, with the most expensive model starting at $17,000 and the least expensive starting at $12,000. For a deposit of $99, customers can reserve a fortwo to purchase in 2008. SmartUSA will launch a 44-city tour later this year where interested customers will have the chance to drive the vehicle and see demonstrations of its safety systems and driving performance.
