ORLANDO, FL – One way automakers are reducing vehicle weight in order to improve fuel economy is by eliminating the spare tire as a standard feature or by offering a sealant or run-flat tires as alternatives, according to AAA. The organization said that a spare tire, tools, and jack can weigh more than 40 lbs.

AAA created a downloadable PDF that lists vehicles, up through model-year 2011, that either don’t have a spare tire and include run-flat tires or a sealant, or offer eliminating the spare tire as an option.
