Driving Notes

Knowing about a vehicle is one thing; driving it is quite another. Getting behind the wheel gives you greater insight into a vehicle's performance, fuel economy, safety and comfort. With the Driving Notes blog, Bobit Business Media FleetGroup editors will get behind the wheel of today's fleet vehicles and give their unbiased views.

The Metris will be offered in passenger and cargo van models. Key vocational markets for the cargo van are delivery fleets and service & maintenance applications. The passenger van will target limo, taxi, and shuttle companies. Here is my report based on a recent press preview and test drive.

The Ram ProMaster City benefits from a car-like ride that's enabled by a bi-link coil suspension. Ram has moved away from the leaf springs usually used in pickup trucks to give the van greater agility and better handling.

Yes, for fleets, the Colorado is fundamentally a truck, designed for a specific, utilitarian purpose, but Chevrolet also didn’t forget the driver—hence it’s the perfect melding of form and function.

While the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado Silverado High Country will definitely appeal to the horse trailering equestrian enthusiast, the truck also has a place in the commercial fleet market, especially for tradesmen, contractors, and foremen, whose vehicles are their mobile offices used in non-severe duty applications.

The Chevrolet Suburban enters its 12th generation with the 2015 model year. It's durability and cargo capacity make it an ideal vehicle for fire response and other rugged fleet applications.

The aluminum body pickup boasts a total weight reduction of 700 pounds compared to the previous model, which improves fuel economy and increases payload capacity. The lighter weight also produces better handling, braking, and maneuverability.

2014 Ram 2500 ProMaster Cargo

The inside of the ProMaster is cavernous, especially when it's empty. When I clapped my hands after jumping into the driver's seat, the sound reverberated like a bear cave. Settling into the saddle, which keeps you high above traffic after only a minor step up into the van, I was able to easily reach all the bells and whistles
