Only seven of 29 hybrids offered in the 2016 model year showed a lower total cost of ownership than their gasoline counterparts, representing a sharp decline from 2012 levels, according to an analysis by Vincentric.
The Q1, which will be built in Ingolstadt, Germany, gives Audi an entry-level SUV that's "part of our broad-based SUV strategy," said Rupert Stadler, Audi's board chairman.
Audi challenged eight drivers to drive its new 2014 TDI models, including the Audi A6 TDI, Audi A7 TDI, and Audi Q5 TDI, across the U.S., from Torrance, Calif., to Manhattan in New York City, with a limited number of stops for refueling, to test the fuel economy of the automaker’s vehicles.
Audi detailed the changes to its 2014 model-year vehicles, including the A6, A7, A8 and Q5. For 2014, one major change is that Audi offers TDI clean diesel variants for each of those models.
In terms of availability, the A8 TDI will be available in spring of 2013, and the A7, A6 and Q5 TDI models will be available in fall 2013.
The Audi Q5 Hybrid is the automakers's first mass-production hybrid vehicle.
