Eaton and Cummins Westport announced an integrated powertrain package for the Cummins Westport ISX12 G natural gas engine that will provide customers with the first automated transmission to be paired with a spark-ignited natural gas engine in the North American market.

Thanks to a $45.4 million grant for the U.S. Department of Energy, Eaton Corp. will provide plug-in hybrid electric commercial vehicles to more than 50 utility and municipal fleets nationwide. Eaton will also provide infrastructure for the electrical charging of these vehicles.
The Eaton Corp.-developed plug-in hybrid truck is estimated to deliver fuel economy improvements of up to 70 percent.
UPS’s order of seven HHV vehicles adds to its green fleet. Already road-tested, the first vehicles will be deployed during the first quarter of 2009.
