The national average regular-grade gasoline price for all of 2009 is expected to be $2.12 per gallon, reports the Department of Energy through the Energy Information Administration this week in an updated forecast.

Diesel fuel will average $2.26 a gallon this year, down 4 cents from a previous forecast and well below the $3.80 average of last year.

Gas prices are expected to increase to an average of $2.30 in 2010, 12 cents below the previous forecast, while diesel fuel will rise to an average $2.48 per gallon next year, down 21 cents from last month's prediction.

These predictions assume that an economic recovery will begin late this year and continue into 2010.
