Travelers to Offer Hybrid Vehicle Owners Discount on Auto Insurance

January 11, 2006

HARTFORD, Conn. -- Travelers personal lines, a member of St. Paul Travelers has announced plans to implement a 10 percent discount on auto insurance to hybrid vehicle owners in the United States beginning in February 2006. Although Farmers Insurance has offered a five percent discount to hybrid vehicle owners in California since October 2005, Travelers’ program makes them the first auto insurance company to begin implementing a discount for hybrid owners nationwide. According to the companies’ press release, there were 328,157 registered hybrid vehicles in the U.S. as of August 2005. Most were in California, followed by Virginia, Washington and Florida. Los Angeles tops the list for most hybrids by city, followed by San Francisco, Washington D.C. and New York.
