Truck driver John Vanscoy was awarded a commendation by the City of Roseville, Mich., for “heroic actions he demonstrated during a serious auto accident,” according to a news release. On May 9, 2007 a car traveling eastbound on Interstate 94 near the 12 Mile Road intersection in Roseville hit a retainer wall, rolled several times and landed back on the road. Due to heavy rush hour traffic, paramedics were having trouble getting to the passengers trapped in the vehicle. According to the release, Vanscoy pulled his semi-truck across the freeway, blocking oncoming traffic, and remained there until both occupants of the vehicle were transported safely to the hospital where they were treated and released. Vanscoy drives for Top Flite Express, a Midwest regional carrier specializing in truckload, critical and high value freight. He has 15- years of experience as a truck driver.
