PuraDYN® Filter Technologies Inc. announced Aug. 1 the introduction by Florida Congressmen Peter Deutsch (D) and Cliff Stearns (R) of legislation designed to promote oil bypass filtration as a means of saving on motor oil costs and protecting the environment against groundwater pollution. In introducing his legislation to the U. S. House Energy and Commerce Committee, Congressman Deutsch said that the purpose of his legislation is "to promote the use of oil bypass filtration technology (OBF) in vehicles by (1) directing the Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency to conduct a joint study on the benefits of OBF in terms of reduced demand for oil and potential environmental benefits; (2) to require the Secretary and Administrator to examine the feasibility of using OBF in the Federal motor vehicle fleet; and (3) to modify the Federal Energy Star Program to add to the list of covered products, devices to extend the life of motor vehicle oil." The new bill was accepted by the Committee and is now proposed to be Section 163 of The Energy Advancement and Conservation Act of 2001 (HR 2587). According to Kevin G. Kroger, president/COO of puraDYN, Congress' recognition of the technology to significantly extend oil drain intervals in Federal and other vehicle fleets as a means of saving money and promoting the environment is very valuable to the oil bypass filtration industry. "We have known at our company for a long time that oil bypass filtration is an efficient and proven way for operators of large fleets to save huge amounts of money on oil and maintenance costs, and simultaneously save on the costs and trouble of disposing of used oil," Kroger said. "The puraDYN filter can eliminate solid contaminants in motor oil down to 0.25 micron as well as liquid contaminants such as fuel and water, allowing the engine to operate on continuously clean oil, and therefore dramatically extending oil change intervals. We have several fleets which have demonstrated extending those intervals up to several hundred thousand miles through the use of the puraDYN system. The unit includes patented devices to replenish the oil additives so that viscosity and the Total Base Number (TBN) is maintained during its use." According to Kroger, “with the help of our by-pass system we significantly reduce waste oil and its toxic pollutants generated from oil changes and simultaneously protect the nation's rivers and groundwater supplies.” PuraDYN said its representatives in Washington are working closely with senior officials in the Bush Administration to assist the President in his efforts nationally to promote environmental protection, conservation of energy resources and technological solutions to reduce the nation's reliance on fossil fuels. The puraDYN filter is one of many conservation devices the Administration is reviewing as part of The National Energy Program. As an example, the Army's Hummer fleet or the Postal Service fleet of vehicles would be among ideal candidates to be retrofitted with the puraDYN unit, according to company officials. About puraDYN PuraDYN manufactures and markets the puraDYN By-Pass Oil Filtration System, a unit that continuously cleans lubricating oil by reducing solid contaminates down to 0.25 micron, as well as removing liquid contaminants, therefore maintaining the oil's viscosity and greatly reducing or even eliminating the necessity for oil changes. As a result of this continuous process, the useful engine life can be extended, according to puraDYN. PuraDYN says uits system is effective for internal combustion engines, hydraulic applications and automatic transmissions in the automotive, transportation, construction, marine, agriculture, mining, military and power generating industries. In addition to the economies realized by the reduced purchases of new oil and the costs of disposing of used oil (up to 90 percent, according to the compasny) and extended equipment life, the puraDYN By-Pass Oil Filtration System has been certified as a "Pollution Preventing Technology" by the California Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
