Launched in 2012 at the North American International Auto Show, the current generation 2014 Ford Fusion and Fusion Hybrid have been awarded the 2014 Fleet Car of the Year award for the fourth straight year.
Ford is adding the rear inflatable safety belt to its 2014-MY Fusion, as well as to the 2014 Fusion Hybrid and Energi models.
Ford plans to adjust vehicle systems to improve the on-road fuel economy of its 2013-MY hybrids sold in the U.S. and Canada beginning in August. Models to receive the updates include the C-MAX Hybrid, the Fusion Hybrid, and the Lincoln MKZ Hybrid.
The 2013 Fusion and Fusion Hybrid received the top Overall Vehicle Score in NHTSA New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) testing, which combines vehicle performance in frontal and side-impact crash tests and resistance to rollover.
The Fusion competed among finalists including the 2013 Dodge Dart Aero, Ford C-MAX, Mazda CX-5 SKYACTIV and the Toyota Prius c.
Ford stated that the Fusion is also available with auto start-stop, which automatically shuts off the engine when the vehicle is idling and boosts fuel economy by up to 3.5%, according to the automaker.
The Fusion is looking smartest at the pump: The gas, gas/electric hybrid and plug-in hybrid are expected to lead their classes in fuel efficiency.

DETROIT – Ford unveiled its all-new Fusion at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The new sedan will come in a number of different models, with two EcoBoost four-cylinder versions, a normally aspirated four-cylinder, a hybrid model, and a plug-in hybrid version.
