BBM Contribute Content Guidelines

Articles accepted for publication will appear on Business Fleet’s website and may be promoted through our newsletters and social media channels.

Word Count

750 to 2,500 words. We are looking for expert-written content that gives business fleet professionals practical takeaways. Exceptions may be considered based on the quality and relevance of the content.

Originality and Exclusivity

All contributed content must be exclusive to Business Fleet and human-written. Articles and columns must not have appeared elsewhere and may not be submitted to or republished by other digital or print publications, media outlets, websites, online forums, or social media platforms after publication. We do not accept AI-written content.

Submitting Your Pitch or Article

Please complete the form below and attach the article as a Word document or copy it into the field provided. You may also submit a pitch before writing the full article. Please be prepared to include:

  • A brief description of your proposed article and what Business Fleet readers will learn
  • Your expertise and professional background
  • An outline or completed article in a Word document, if available
  • Any available photos (.png or .jpg preferred), graphics, and/or imagery

We accept article pitches in place of the full article. However, final acceptance depends on editorial review of the completed article.

If your submission seems like a good fit, a Business Fleet editor will typically contact you within three weeks. Please flag any pressing timing requirements in your submission. Due to the number of submissions we receive, we cannot respond to all article pitches. If we do not respond within three weeks, your article has not been selected for publication.

Subject Matter

Business Fleet serves professionals who manage vehicles used for business, including small business owners, dedicated fleet managers, and employees who handle fleet responsibilities alongside other duties. Our coverage focuses on the cars, SUVs, vans, and light-duty trucks that help businesses serve customers and get work done.

Please review Business Fleet’s website to become familiar with our coverage and audience before submitting.

Our readers want practical guidance on choosing and financing vehicles, managing maintenance, improving driver safety, controlling fuel and operating costs, evaluating technology, and building effective fleet policies. We also welcome expertise on leadership, the driver experience, and managing a growing fleet.

Connect your expertise to the business decisions behind the vehicles. Explain how your topic can help readers reduce downtime, support employees, protect their investment, or better understand what their fleet costs to operate. Keep recommendations useful for businesses with limited time, staff, and resources, including those without a dedicated fleet department.

Articles should give readers steps they can take, questions they should ask, or ideas they can adapt to their own operations. Thought-provoking perspectives are welcome when they offer a clear takeaway for business fleet professionals.

Deadlines

We accept pitches year-round. General submissions do not have a set deadline, but special projects and timely coverage may have specific due dates. An editor can work with you to establish a deadline for an assigned article.

Selection Criteria

Articles and columns are accepted or rejected at the sole discretion of Business Fleet’s editorial team. If your article is accepted, you must sign a contributor’s agreement.

Contributed copy is subject to editing by Business Fleet’s editors, who have the final say. The author will receive an edited copy for review and approval before publication.

Bio and Headshot

If the author is new to Business Fleet, please include a headshot (at least 300 x 300 pixels at 72 dpi) and an author bio.

Art or Graphics

You are not required to submit art with the story. However, relevant photos of business vehicles, drivers, equipment, or daily operations, along with useful charts and graphics, can help illustrate your expertise.

Photos should be at least 1,000 x 600 pixels (the larger, the better) and 72 dpi. All submitted images must be original, or you must provide documentation granting Business Fleet permission to use them.

Attribution

Please clearly identify the original sources of outside facts, statistics, research, and other supporting information. Include attribution within the article and hyperlink to the original source whenever possible.

Please use hyperlinks rather than placing full web addresses in the article.

Style and Formatting

We use Associated Press style and Business Fleet’s internal editorial guidelines.

Please include the author’s name at the top of the piece, below the headline, and a two- to three-sentence author bio at the end that will run with the article.

Publication and Promotion

Contributed articles are considered for online publication. We currently do not have a print publication. Business Fleet routinely shares and links to its exclusive content through branded social media accounts. We reserve the right to share contributed content on Business Fleet’s social media accounts and the professional social media accounts of our editors.

Tips for a Strong Business Fleet Submission

  • Lead with your expertise. Focus on a topic you know well. Share firsthand knowledge, lessons learned, and a clear perspective that helps readers make better business and fleet decisions.
  • Use your voice. Write conversationally, as if you’re explaining the topic to a business owner or fleet manager. Keep it educational without making it read like a white paper.
  • Keep it educational. Content that is a thinly veiled sales pitch for a product or service will not be accepted. Focus on the problem, the considerations, and the practical takeaways.
  • Make it manageable. Offer realistic recommendations for readers who may be handling vehicles alongside staffing, customer service, budgets, and other business responsibilities.
  • You don’t have to be a professional writer. Our editorial team can help you turn your expertise into a clear, useful article.
  • Leave the reporting to our staff editors. Q&As, interviews, and articles built around quotes from interviewed sources are generally not accepted as contributed pieces.
