Small and midsize fleets now have a new option for managing fuel purchases and vehicle expenses as Canadian fintech company Fillip Fleet expands into the United States.
The company announced its U.S. launch June 15, making its digital fuel card platform available to fleet-based businesses throughout North America. Fillip has grown rapidly in Canada since its launch in 2022 and is now targeting the millions of small- and midsize fleet operators that have traditionally been underserved by legacy fleet card programs.
Through the Fillip mobile app, business owners can instantly issue digital fuel cards to drivers, who can then make purchases using Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. The cards are accepted anywhere Visa contactless payments are supported, eliminating the need to distribute and manage physical fuel cards.
Fleet Expense Management Designed for Small and Midsize Businesses
A key differentiator for Fillip is its focus on accessibility for smaller fleets. Traditional fleet card programs often require minimum vehicle counts, credit checks, and long-term commitments that can create barriers for growing businesses.
Fillip says businesses can sign up without setup fees or vehicle minimums, with optional credit checks and onboarding that can be completed in as little as one day.
For business owners and fleet managers, the platform provides real-time visibility into purchases, customizable spending controls, automated reporting, and fraud detection tools. The company says these capabilities help businesses better monitor fuel spending while reducing administrative work.
"When we started Fillip, we saw that small and medium-sized businesses were being left behind by an industry built for large enterprises," said Alice Reimer, CEO of Fillip Fleet. "Our growth across Canada proved the demand was real."
The expansion follows several strategic partnerships in Canada, including collaborations with telecommunications providers, fuel retail brands, and fleet telematics companies. Fillip has also participated in Visa's Fintech Fast Track Program, which supports emerging payments technology companies.
As fuel costs and operational efficiency remain top concerns for many small fleets, demand continues to grow for tools that provide better visibility into spending and simplify fleet administration. Fillip's North American expansion reflects a broader shift toward digital-first payment platforms that combine fuel purchasing, expense management, and operational oversight in a single solution.
The company said its platform is now available to businesses throughout both Canada and the United States.
