GM Brings New Truck Focused Interface to 2027 Silverado and Sierra

GM's new pickup interface puts trailering data, camera views, vehicle controls, and smartphone integration closer to the driver in the 2027 Silverado and Sierra.

General Motors is putting its newest digital interface into its highest-volume vehicles first, with the system debuting in the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado and 2027 GMC Sierra light-duty pickups.

The new interface is designed around simpler access to vehicle information and controls, but for truck users, some of the more notable changes center on towing, trailering, and other tasks drivers regularly handle from the cab.

A redesigned home screen uses a split-view layout that can keep a large interactive map visible while displaying information such as trailering metrics, fuel-efficiency data, media, or vehicle status alongside it. Drivers can also customize quick-access controls, while frequently used functions including climate, audio, and camera views remain readily available.

GM Executive Director of Software Product Management Michael Wahlstrom said customer feedback helped shape that approach.

"We heard from customers that they want that same simplicity while still having quick access to everything their vehicle can do," Wahlstrom said.

Interface Changes When the Job Changes

For drivers towing a trailer, the interface can automatically adapt once the trailer is connected. Dedicated trailering information can appear in the instrument cluster while a trailering card on the center screen provides access to additional towing information.

A specialized Hitch View camera is designed to help drivers line up a trailer without a spotter. Terrain and underbody camera views can also help drivers see obstacles that may otherwise be hidden from the cab.

One particularly practical addition for work truck operators is the ability to perform trailer light checks from a connected phone. Drivers can test brake lights, turn signals, reverse lights, and running lights without repeatedly moving between the driver's seat and the rear of the trailer.

Available Super Cruise also gains a new 3D driving visualization that shows surrounding traffic, lane markings, and road objects while the driver-assistance system is operating. GM continues to offer Super Cruise with hands-free trailering on compatible roads.

Fewer Menus and More Quick Access

The system integrates Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with GM's native interface rather than forcing drivers to move completely between the two environments. Phone projection can appear alongside native truck functions such as vehicle status and trailering information.

Drivers can customize frequently used controls, while GM is retaining physical controls where the company determined tactile feedback and quick access remain important.

The interface also supports Google Maps, Google Gemini, apps through Google Play, and over-the-air software updates. GM says the architecture will allow the system to continue receiving new features and refinements after the vehicle is delivered.

The new interface debuts with the next-generation 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 before expanding to additional GM vehicles.
