Honda and Acura vehicles recently earned awards for high resale value from two leading organizations. Honda earned more awards than any other manufacturer in the 2000 IntelliChoice Pre-Owned Best Overall Value of the Year (BOVY) awards, which honor the best values in categories such as Best Overall Car Value and Best Overall Truck value. Honda won four of the eight categories for pre-owned value. IntelliChoice evaluated more than 2,400 1997-1999 cars, trucks and sport utility vehicles in making its selections. The awards were created by IntelliChoice to help used-car shoppers decide which cars and trucks offer the best combination of reliability, safety, price and cost. Calculations for depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel and maintenance costs, state fees and repairs over a five-year period are examined. The Honda Civic earned two of IntelliChoice's Pre-Owned BOVY awards. It was chosen as the Best Passenger Car Value and the Best Overall Passenger Car Value. Also a double winner, the Honda Odyssey minivan earned a Pre-Owned BOVY in the Best Van Value class and was judged to be Best Overall Truck Value. IntelliChoice also recognized Honda for having the "Best Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle Program" in the non-luxury market. Additionally, Honda's Certified Pre-Owned Warranty was ranked best in the industry by IntelliChoice. Honda and Acura products also received Automotive Lease Guide (ALG) Residual Value Awards for 2000. ALG is the automotive industry's benchmark for forecasting the residual value of a vehicle. A higher residual value is more favorable because it reduces the amount of money needed to finance the term of a lease. Acura topped the list for the second year in a row for Best Near-Luxury Car with the TL. The Honda Odyssey was a repeat winner in the Best Minivan category. ALG's annual awards honor vehicles in each segment predicted to retain the highest percentage of their original price. The awards are dependent upon 2000 model-year residual value projections, which ALG determines after studying historical used-car data, economic indicators, industry trends, brand strength, new-vehicle transaction prices, sales performance, quality and reliability indicators. Residual Value Awards are chosen from more than 1,100 vehicles and are based upon ALG's 36-month residual projections over the past calendar year. Vehicles are comparably equipped within their segment and compared on an individual trim level basis.
