For a small business operator, managing a vehicle repair can quickly turn into another full-time job. Someone has to locate a shop, arrange the service, review the estimate, approve the work, track progress, and check the final invoice.

ServiceUp has launched a fleet repair platform that uses AI agents to handle many of those routine steps automatically. The company said customers using the platform have cut downtime by an estimated 50%, reduced total repair costs by 30%, and lowered manual coordination by 62%.

Taking the Middleman Work Off Small Fleets

The platform covers collision repair, mechanical service, and preventive maintenance for Class 1 through Class 8 vehicles. It connects with a company’s existing fleet management, telematics, and predictive maintenance tools rather than requiring operators to replace the systems they already use.

When a vehicle needs service, the platform can route it to a repair facility based on its location, the shop’s capabilities, availability, pricing, and previous performance. AI agents then monitor the repair, request updates, flag delays, and escalate problems when human attention is needed.

Business Fleet spoke with Brett Carlson, CEO of ServiceUp, about how the platform could help businesses without a large fleet department.

“Everyone in this industry treats downtime and paperwork as just the cost of running a fleet. We don't buy that,” Carlson said. “It's not the cost of running a fleet; it's the cost of running it manually.”

ServiceUp’s estimate auditing system checks repair recommendations against pricing limits, warranty rules, and company policies. Straightforward approvals can be completed automatically, while unusual costs or repairs are routed to the operator for review.

After the work is complete, the platform compares the invoice line by line with the approved estimate before payment.

Operators Decide How Much Control to Delegate

Businesses can use the platform in manual, co-pilot, or fully autonomous modes. Individual repair agents can also be customized or turned off, allowing an operator to automate routine decisions while retaining direct control over higher-cost or unusual repairs.

“The next generation of ServiceUp is built to end that, with AI agents handling every routine step in the repair process, from chasing a shop down to approving the invoice, so a small fleet operator can stop being their own dispatcher and start actually running their business,” Carlson said. “That shift is way overdue.”

The platform also provides real-time repair monitoring and fleet-wide reporting. ServiceUp said those insights can help operators identify recurring repair costs, slow-performing shops, and vehicles that may be spending too much time out of service.
